I'm so glad people on Twitter are going even more crazy about Charlie Cox than I am

Thank you, Twitter's people

One wish

Please God, allow all the movie theaters of the world to be taken by a huge amount of films with this fine specimen of man through the whole year of 2015! Especially if he can be speaking with his natural and wonderful British accent.. please?

International Women's Day

Las Dos Fridas, by Frida Kahlo

I know this painting is about her broken marriage, but we can use the image to go further on the idea of being torn, on how being a woman is not one whole defined experience. If it ever was once, culture and society are making more and more difficult for us to reunite our sense of integrity again.

Frost/Bernal

All the 5 of you that come here frequently know I'm a little obsessed.
So, continuing the GGB Week, I was very surprised to discover that this was the last interview of David Frost.
Since I'm terrified about the idea of "the end" of anything, it would be extremely touching to me if I were the last interviewed of someone, even more of someone with the magnitude of Frost.
I hope you enjoy it.

So, Valentine's Day...

and it's Friday!
Good luck out there tonight, kids.
Have fun!

A song about last week

They'll cast us out
Down the mountainside
When they see that
We were right all the time

They'll hang us in the wood at night
When they see that
We are on the winning side

So we'll hide out in here
Before they take the rest of us outside

They'll burn down cities
And tear the trees up
In one last demonstration
Of their powers

And they'll swell up
Till their heads explode
And that's when we come out
And take back what is ours

We don't need to be silent anymore
And they can't take us outside

A cornered dog is a dangerous dog
And you don't need to listen anymore
To its barking

Just take it outside
And put the rabies-spitting beast down

Veto - Take it outside

I wish I could pick up just one quote from this song, but I couldn't. It's perfect, it matches exactly how we feel, how I feel right now about everything that's going on in São Paulo, Rio and spreading to the whole country.
We need a lot of things but first of all freedom and respect, so we will be able to debate and change. We have the right to disagree, to doubt and to express our frustration.
We are right. And we know it.

Música, sushi e uma certeza:

It took me too long to listen to this song...

We're way too young to let things slide
and we're way too old to try

Still don't get it

Why can't I buy a digital record at Amazon.com?
Why is it available only for U.S. customers?
Why am I allow to import a CD but not to get the digital format of the same record?
Why should I submit myself to the itunes monopoly?

For almost a year I've been trying to buy the last The Twilight Singers record, live in New York, but I'm still not able to do so.
I don't like Apple. I'm sorry, I don't criticize the ones who love it but it's not my case. I want another option.
I just want to manifest my indignation on try to do the right thing and being constantly denied to.

Top 5 on Friday

1. The Afghan Whigs - I wish I have seen them in Barcelona or Porto...
2. Veto - I will someday, and I'm pretty sure it will be amazing!
3. Norah Jones - I loved the first time I saw her in concert and it would be lovely to hear the last record live.
4. Fiona Apple - I'm very curious about the new record
5. Pearl Jam - I even planned going to Scandinavia to see them this summer but it didn't happen :(

[Risos]"

Guerra e Paz

"Entre o sonho e o cafezal
entre guerra e paz
entre mártires, ofendidos,
músicos, jangadas, pandorgas,
entre os roceiros mecanizados de Israel,
a memória de Giotto e o aroma primeiro do Brasil
entre o amor e o ofício
eis que a mão decide:
Todos os meninos, ainda os mais desgraçados,
sejam vertiginosamente felizes

e torna humilde, serviçal e doméstica a mão excedente

Acesse: www.guerraepaz.org.br

Another perspective about love and imagination

"If it's true, as some German fellow has said, that without phosphorus there is no thought, it is still more true that there is no kindness of heart without a certain amount of imagination. She had some. She had even more than is necessary to understand suffering and to be moved by pity. She fell in love under circumstances that leave no room for doubt in the matter; for you need imagination to form a notion of beauty at all, and still more to discover your ideal in an unfamiliar shape."
Conrad, Joseph. Amy Foster. 1901, p.3

Top 5 on Friday

British bands have a special talent for chorus, so here you have just a sample of their potential (you must know all these bands, right?)
This Top 5 is an opportunity to remember some bands I've been neglecting lately. And after searching for theses videos, I hope Franz and Muse will bring something new soon.
I must tell you the songs here were disposed only by a chronological order, not by preference. That would be very hard to do (I'm not even sure these are my favorites choruses from each one of them...)

1. "Let it be / let it be / let it be / let it be / whisper words of wisdom / let it be"

2. "Sooooo Sally can't wait / she knows is too late / she's walking on by / my soul slides away / 'But don't look back in anger' / I heard you say"

3. "No you girls will never know / Oh no you girls will never know / no you girls will never know / how you make a boy feel"

4. "They will not force us / They will stop degrading us /They will not enslave us / We will be victorious" (I once use this chorus as a theme for a strike)

5. "This could be para para paradise / para para paradise / para para paradise..." (This on really steaks)

Top 5 on Friday

There's tons of music videos I love but most of them mainly because of the songs. It's pretty hard to remember the ones I liked for the video itself. Here's some.

1. (This video always breaks my heart)

2. (It doesn't need introduction)

3. (Impossible not to like this one)

4. (Anton is a genius)

5. (Usually I prefer Bjork videos than songs. This one is perfect.)

Midnight in Paris

Gil: Adriana, if you stay here though, and this becomes your present then pretty soon you'll start imagining another time was really your... You know, was really the golden time. Yeah, that's what the present is. It's a little unsatisfying because life's a little unsatisfying.

***

If only this insight could happen every time someone fantasizes about life in the Ancient Greece or in any other supposed great-civilization-moment... we could, at the very least, have a little bit more fun in the present.

This already is one of my favorite Woody Allen's films.

Amanhecer em 2008

2008
